Limited Edition, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

A very scarce copy of the first Mermaid edition, limited to 1,000 copies. This is copy number 74. 

With the original unclipped dust wrapper (unpriced).

This play, written to mark the 750th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta, dwells on the failure of the document to achieve liberty. It was commissioned by the Corporation of the City of London and staged at Bernard Miles' Mermaid Theatre from 7-12 June 1965 in front of invited audiences including the Queen, dignitaries and schoolchildren before being opened to public performances from 14 June 1965. 

From John Arden, deemed one of the most significant British playwrights of the late 1950s and early 60s.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. With the original unclipped dust wrapper (unpriced). Externally, fine. Dust wrapper is smart, with scattered spots and handling marks to the wrap. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages.
