This highly illustrated work presents the avifauna located in the Svalbard region, being the Norwegian archipelago between Norway and the North Pole. Known for its rugged terrain and vast glaciers, Svalbard is one of the world's northernmost inhabited regions. This work presents a discussion on the birds inhabiting this area, as well as those living on nearby islands, including Spitsbergen. 

Written by Norwegian ornithologist and photographer Herman Leopoldus Løvenskiold.

Illustrated with eighteen plates, many of which are in colour, three folding tables and numerous other tables. With an additional thirty-three maps and one folding map held in the pocket to the rear. These maps detail various breeding grounds and species distribution.

Collated, complete.

Condition

Bound in the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, very smart, with light age toning to wrap extremities and the odd mark. Tear to the head and tail of the rear joint. Rear wrap is a little strained. Pocket to the rear has the occasional tear. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean.
