This story centres around the effect of a mysterious death on the 'May of Teck Club', a society of women who wish to reside apart from their families in order to pursue a career in London.
The main action takes places in 1945, between V-E Day and V-J Day, whilst the connected death occurs years later in 1963.
Muriel Spark began her career as one of the few female editors of the Poetry Review before developing into a novelist.
Condition
In the original cloth binding. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart with slight shelf wear to the extremities. Dust wrapper is sunned to the spine and edges. Small chip to the head of spine and small closed tear to the rear panel. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper.
