The title of this debut novel was taken from a quotation from the play The White Devil by John Webster.

The work centres on two sisters, Sarah and Louise. It tells the story of Louise's marriage as seen through Sarah's eyes. It is also the story of Sarah's own life as a young, intelligent and attractive woman, at loose ends without close friends or a lover. It is a journey of self discovery and learning about love, infidelity, and her sister Louise.

Dust wrapper is smart. Sunning to spine, with chipping to head and tail. Closed tears to front joint and along head of wrap. Internally, firmly bound. pages are bright and clean.
