First published in 1957, this is a 1961 reprint. 

Written near the end of his life, this work centers on life in a Berkshire village on a backwater of the Thames, drawing on Gibbings’ journeys through Europe and beyond, celebrating landscapes, rivers, villages, and the people he encounters. 

With a colour frontispiece.

Robert Gibbings (1889–1958) was an Irish artist, writer, and pioneering wood engraver best known for his illustrated travel and nature books.

Condition

Rebound in a full blue morocco binding. Externally, very smart. Fading to spine. Slight offsetting and spotting to perimeters of endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots to fore edges.
