A complete three volume set of early impressions of J. R. R. Tolkien's beloved trilogy of high fantasy novels.
Each volume present here was published in 1961, with 'The Fellowship of the Ring' in its tenth impression, 1961, 'The Two Towers' in its eighth impression, 1961, and 'The Return of the King' in its seventh impression, 1961.
Each volume bears a folding map of Middle Earth to the rear.
With the former owner's inscription of S.C. Donnell to the front free endpaper of each volume.
Early editions of perhaps the most celebrated fantasy trilogy ever written, following Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf and their associates in the quest to destroy the One Ring.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Bumping to back strip heads and tails, with fraying to cloth of volume I back strip head and tail. Back strips age toned, with fading to volume I back strip tail. Significant fading and tide mark to tail of volume III rear board, with faint tide marks to rear board of volume I, most concentrated to fore edge. Rubbing to joints. Rear hinge of volume II strained and a touch tender. Former owner's inscriptions to head of each front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
