Description

First Edition, With Dustwrapper

The first edition, first impression of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper.

The fourth of Burgess' 'exotic novels', the novel is set in an imaginary caliphate named Dunia, and follows an Italian father and son who are in the process of constructing an enormous mosque from marble. It is loosely based on Burgess' experiences in Bandar Seri Begawan, on the island of Borneo.

Written by Anthony Burgess, best known for his satire 'A Clockwork Orange'. As well as being a prolific novelist and translator, Burgess composed over two hundred and fifty musical works, although his success as a writer was far greater.
