Description

A set of eight volumes from the popular work, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.

This magazine became one of the leading amongst the genre, with a reputation for publishing literary material and including more diverse stories than its competitors. 

The years included range from 1961-1971, where the editor for the majority of the period was Edward Ferman, although his father Joseph Ferman held the title of official editor. In 1970, Edward succeeded him as publisher. 

These eight issues each contain a selection of short stories, novelets and additional features on the topics of films, cartoons, books and science. 

The collection includes the following:

1961 - February (Volume 20 No. 2), July (Volume 21 No. 1), September (Volume 21 No. 3) and December (Volume 21 No. 6)
With short stories from authors such as Michael Young ('The Timekeeper') and Ron Goulart ('Time Was'). July is an All Star issue, with a feature from Isaac Asimov on 'Science: Recipe for a Planet'.

1969 - July (Volume 37 No. 1)
A special Fritz Leiber issue, featuring one of his short novels, a profile and a bibliography. Alongside other short stories. 

1970 - April (Volume 38 No. 4)
Features Fritz Leiber's well-received sword and sorcery novella, 'III Met in Lankhmar'.

1971 - September (Volume 41 No. 3) November (Volume 41 No. 5)
With such authors as Kit Reed ('Underground') and Fritz Leiber ('The Price of Pain Ease'). Features from Isaac Asimov and Baird Searles.

Condition

In the publisher's illustrative wraps. Externally, smart with edge wear to the wraps. Small chips to the covers of September 1961 and July 1961, as well as chips and loss to the spine to February 1961. Front hinge starting but firm to February 1961. Slight sunning and general wear to all spines. Handling marks to the wraps. Internally, generally firmly bound. April 1970 First leaf unbound but present. Pages are age toned due to paper used and clean throughout.
