Renowned Catholic poet Alexander Pope modelled aspects of his work on that of John Dryden, who he greatly admired. Pope is also considered to have been the first full-time professional English writer.

Rubbing, chipping and age toning to dust wrappers and fly leaves. The odd mark to dust wrappers. Sunning to dust wrapper spines. Occasional tears to dust wrapper extremities. Small tide marks to dust wrapper spines of vol6 and 7. Internally, generally firmly bound. Vol2 pp.341-352 loose and slotted inside. Pages generally bright and clean. Age toning to vol2 half title. Occasional spotting. Spotting to top edges. Tide mark to vol1 end paper.
