This volume assembles 100 eighteenth-century recipes, “receipts”, for authentic colonial-style refreshments suitable for social gatherings or hostessing, drawn from historic cookbooks, with commentary on traditional Virginian hospitality practices. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece engraving and one other full page engraving on the verso of the first page.

Recipes include: "Olive Royals", "Fried Patties", "Beef Olives", "Fairy Butter", "Scarlet Beef", "Bath Cakes", "Cannellons", "Cinnamon Cakes", "Princess Amelia Biscuits", "Fish in Jelly", and "Moon-Shine", to name a few. 

Condition

In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper boards. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. one or two very slight handling marks to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
