This volume contains Robert Graves’s modern English translation of The Golden Ass, the only complete surviving Latin novel from antiquity. 

Lucius Apuleius was a 2nd-century Roman philosopher and satirist, known for his eclectic style and religious themes. This volume follows Lucius’s transformation into a donkey and his journey through magical mishaps, culminating in spiritual salvation through the goddess Isis.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial paper vellum covered boards. Externally, very smart. Slight offsetting and age toning to paper vellum. One or two very slight handling marks, with the slightest rubbing and bumping to extremities. Slipcase, smart. Slight cracking to upper extremities. slight rubbing and bumping resulting in minor loss to paper. Small perforation to tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
