Charters focuses on artists such as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lonnie Johnson, Leroy Carr, Brownie McGhee, Blind Willie McTell, Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters, Lightnin’ Hopkins, and Robert Johnson.

Samuel Barclay Charters IV (1929–2015) was an American music historian, author, record producer, musician, and poet, best known for his influential writings on blues and jazz.

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. The odd spot to boards, with very slight evidence of damp staining. Offsetting to endpapers with the odd spot. Dust wrapper, smart. Slight rubbing to extremities and panels, occasionally resulting in slight loss of colour print. One or two spots. The odd handling mark to inside, with slight offsetting. Head and tail of spine and one joint reinforced with tape on inside. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots to fore edge.
