What Our Customers Say...

Description

Original Binding, Uncommon, With Dustwrapper

A fascinating collection of titles from prolific and respected linguistics and philologists, in excellent condition, all in original, unclipped dust wrappers.

Includes titles by writers such as Christine Brooke-Rose, seen here in her role as a literary critic, who was known for her experimental fiction, and who assisted in war-time translation at Bletchley Park; L. R. Palmer, an author and philologist whose linguistic knowledge was also employed at Bletchley Park's Hut Four; and Otto Jespersen, a Danish linguist, whose 1924 title, included here in its 1963 edition, makes for a 'perceptive' and 'entertaining' read.

Of the collection, the first three volumes contain occasional vignette illustrations and diagrams, with vol 3, Daniel Jones' 'An Outline of English Phonetics', also featuring a monochrome frontispiece.
