This is a vibrant volume in The Faber Library of Illuminated Manuscripts series. The Lambeth Bible can be found in Lambeth Palace Library MS. 3. This bible (circa 1150–1170) is stated in the introduction to be one of the most acknowledged masterpieces from Romanesque England which "represents so completely the assimilation to English tastes and traditions of a style that is ultimately Byzantine."
This edition includes eight colour plates reproducing key illuminations from the 12th‑century Lambeth Bible, accompanied by scholarly notes and observations on their style, iconography, provenance, and artistic significance. Collated, complete.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. The odd faint handling mark to boards. The odd spot to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
