These two novellas feature the Glass family, a popular subject for Salinger, with 'Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters' narrated by Buddy Glass and describing his army leave, during which he attends his brother Seymour's wedding and describes the chaotic aftermath when Seymour does not attend, later contributing to Seymour's suicide. 'Seymour: an Introduction' is Buddy's description of his brother Seymour, told in stream of consciousness as Buddy remembers his brother from his home.
Both works had previously appeared in 'The New Yorker'.
