The volume includes three appendices - (A) Uncollected Letters and Essays, (B) Uncollected Poems: Early and Late, and (C) Uncollected Magazine Contributions to Magazines: 1789-93. William Cowper was an English poet and hymnodist. One of the most popular poets of his time, Cowper changed the direction of eighteenth century nature poetry by writing of everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. In many ways, he was one of the forerunners of Romantic poetry. Samuel Taylor Coleridge called him "the best modern poet", whilst William Wordsworth particularly admired his poem Yardley-Oak. Contains portraits of various figures.
Condition
In a red cloth binding with gilt lettering to spine and a price-clipped dustwrapper. Externally excellent with just minor shelfwear. Internally firmly bound with very bright and clean pages throughout. Dustwrapper generally smart with some handling marks, a closed tear to head of the spine and some wear to extremities.
