Two volumes. First editions. Written by Thomas A. Layton, a celebrated British caterer, restaurateur, and cheese connoisseur who was instrumental in bringing good, moderately priced wines to the tables of middle-class Londoners. This set contains: Choose Your Wine, 1959. A guide for the amateur wine drinker to select the best tasting wines with the most moderate pricing. With chapters on wine making, a history of wine, handling wine, and the wines of different regions. Choose Your Vegetables, 1963. Signed and inscribed by the author to the title page to a friend named Derek, in Spanish. An admirable blend of botany, history, horticulture, and gastronomy, with a dash of autobiography and plain gossip thrown in.
