The first edition, first impression of crime writer Raymond Chandler's final completed novel.

In the publisher's original price unclipped dust wrapper.

Published three months prior to the first US edition.

Featuring Chandler's recurring private detective Philip Marlowe, one of the most well-known characters within the genre of hardboiled crime fiction. In this work, Marlowe is hired to follow an attractive and mysterious woman who is on the run.

Of all Chandler's novels, Playback is the only one never to have been adapted into a film.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper. A touch of shelf wear to back strip tail, otherwise externally excellent. Chipping and small losses to dust wrapper back strip head and tail, with light edgewear to wrap heads. Small neat tape repairs to dust wrapper reverse, to back strip head and tail and flyleaves. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
