Featuring Chandler's recurring private detective Philip Marlowe, one of the most well-known characters within the genre of hardboiled crime fiction. In this work, Marlowe is hired to follow an attractive and mysterious woman who is on the run.

Of all Chandler's novels, Playback is the only one never to have been adapted into a film.

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with clipped dust wrapper. A touch of shelf wear to back strip tail, minor bump to rear board tail, otherwise externally excellent. Chipping and small losses to dust wrapper back strip head, with closed tears and edgewear to front wrap head. Major loss towards head of rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, with a mall spot to the head of pages 47-133, not affecting text
