First edition.
With the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper.
Based on Eugene O'Neill's 1921 play 'Anna Christie', which follows a prostitute who tries to live down her past. 'New Girl' ends far more hopefully than the play however, with more of a focus on love's ability to conquer all.
With music and lyrics by Bob Merrill, who was one of the most successful songwriters on the 1950s on the US and UK single charts.
Abbott received numerous honours throughout his career, including six Tony Awards, the Pulitzer Prize and the National Medal of Arts.
