This work takes place between May 1821 and October 1823. Hornblower has been promoted to rear-admiral and given command of the West Indies Station with a squadron consisting of three frigates and fourteen brigs and schooners.

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Head of the spine is a touch faded. Dust wrapper is very lightly edge worn and a little rubbed. Spine is age-toned. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
