Limited to seven hundred and fifty copies of which this is number twenty-four. Scarce work. Illustrated throughout. A collection of historical ballads from Denmark, including: Valdemar and Tove, The Battle of Lena, Squire Lavers, The Marsk Stig Cycle, and Niels Ebbeson. Translated by Sir Alexander Gray, a Scottish civil servant, economist, academic, translator, writer and poet. Illustrated by Edward Bawden, an English painter, illustrator and graphic artist, known for his prints, book covers, and posters, and George Mackie, a Scottish artist, graphic designer, and illustrator.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine. Original price-clipped dust wrapper is also smart with light wear and minor rubbing to the extremities. Light sunning to the spine with the odd small mark to the panels, an ink mark to the front panel. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper.
