Two volumes. First editions. This set contains: Avalanche, 1958. Illustrated with three maps by Rafael Palacios. A terrifying minute by minute account of the great natural disaster that overwhelmed an Alpine village, being Blons in Wester Austria. This is the actual story of the people of the village - before, during, and after the avalanche. Written by Joseph Wechsberg, an Austrian Jewish Czech writer, journalist and musician. The Avalanche Enigma, 1966. Illustrated with forty-one images across twenty-four plates, one map, and fourteen figures. Collated complete. Written by an author captivated by the complex and unpredictable nature of the avalanche, exploring their enormous destructive power and their capriciousness. Written by Colin Fraser, an English member of the Alpine rescue organisation Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor wear to the extremities. The dust wrapper for Avalanche remains unclipped while The Avalanche Enigma has been price-clipped. Original dust wrappers are also smart with light wear and the odd small closed tear to the panel edges. Light spotting to the internal sides with sympathetic repairs to the panel edges of The Avalanche Enigma made with tape. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with minor age toning to the endpapers.
