Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce, With Dustwrapper
First edition. Illustrated with sixteen plates. Collated complete. A commentary of the artist's life in Africa, describing the different strands which make up her new world. Telling of neighbours, family holidays, ventures into the countryside, exotic birds and animals, and much more. Above all she tells how she gradually built up a thriving school of art for East Africa, and the ways in which she taught her students to express themselves in an unfamiliar medium. Written by Margaret Trowell, a British artist, author and curator who founded the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art in 1937 at the then Makerere College in the then Uganda Protectorate. She was a curator for the National Museums of Uganda and served as the president of the Uganda Society. As an educator in Africa, she advocated for creativity in art education by designing a curriculum that focused on both contemporary art and African art styles.
