First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

First edition. A comic strip set in the Okefenokee Swamp in the Southeastern United States, following the adventures of its anthropomorphic animal characters, particularly the title character, an opossum. The strip was written for both children and adults, with layers of social and political satire. Written and illustrated by Walter Crawford Kelly Jr., an American animator and cartoonist, best known for the comic strip Pogo. He began his animation career in 1936 at Walt Disney Studios, contributing to Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Dumbo.

Condition

In the original pictorial paper binding. Externally, smart with minor wear and the odd small mark to the boards. Sunning to the spine and board edges with a price sticker to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light spotting to the foredge and endpapers.
