Written by R. R. Sowerby, author of two novels on Cumbrian market town Kirkby Stephen and one on Castle Sowerby. The Sowerby family was a British family of naturalists, botanists and zoologists, amongst them James Sowerby and George Brettingham Sowerby. Arthur de Carle Sowerby (1885-1954) was raised in China, and attended the Duke of Bedford's expedition in Shensi in 1906, as well as Robert Sterling Clark's expedition of 1909, seeking specimens from the Yellow River. He also made expeditions to Manchuria and Mongolia.

Contains a folding plate to the rear with a family tree of the Sowerby family.

In a full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely. Dust wrapper is unclipped and in lovely condition. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean.
