The fifty-fifth book of the Biggles series, which was written for young readers, and features James Bigglesworth as a fictional pilot and adventurer. These popular works were written by William Earl Johns (1893 -1968), who was himself a pilot in the First World War.
This novel follows the story of an aircraft, carrying secret documents, that disappears over Africa. Biggles is sent to investigate but is captured, and must be rescued by Ginger and Bertie.
Illustrated with colour plates by the illustrator Leslie Stead, who worked on many of the books in the Biggles series.

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is very smart and bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper remains bright but is chipped to the head of the spine, with small closed tears to the lower extremities of the front of the wrap.
