What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding

A lovely first edition of Nancy Cunard's memoirs on her childhood companion 'GM', as she called him - the influential Irish writer who influenced James Joyce, and was a friend of Oscar Wilde.

Nancy Cunard was the daughter of Moore's unrequited love, Maud Cunard - an influential socialite.

Moore involved himself so close with the family that there was speculation that he was in fact Nancy Cunard's father.

Featuring a frontispiece portrait of George Moore, and 6 further monochrome plates, including a printed inscription from Moore to Cunard.
Collated, complete.

Contains the bookplate of John Gere to front paste down.
John Gere was an art historian and collector, whose collection of 18th and 19th Century artist landscape sketches is currently on loan to The National Gallery.

Condition

Bound in original brown cloth, with half paper vellum. Externally, in excellent condition. Very slight bumping to head and tail. Handful of small marks to boards. John Gere bookplate to front paste down. Very subtle spotting to bottom edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages consistently very bright and clean.
