Third impression. The author's third novel. The story of a middle-aged schoolmaster with political ambitions who meets a young painter when she comes to paint a former school headmaster's portrait.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrappers are also smart with light wear to the extremities and sunning to the spine. The odd small closed tear to the panel edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. With a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper and bookseller's label to the front pastedown of The Sandcastle.
