The first edition of the work.

In the publisher's original cloth binding and original unclipped dust wrapper. 

A story of a man returned from the war, who must be tended back to health by his stepmother at his childhood home, but suffers from the guilt of such intimacy.

Paranormal factors come into play when the stepmother can hear and feel the powerful presence her husband's deceased wife has over the home.

British novelist R. C. Hutchinson is often recommended by book clubs and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1962.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, in lovely condition with minor shelf wear only and clear gilt-blocked cloth. Dust wrapper is slightly sunned to the spinal panel, otherwise in very good condition with some very light edge wear to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are clean and bright. Offsetting to endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription by owner to front free endpaper.
