1953-1955 The Reluctant Gardener, The Reluctant Cook, & The Reluctant Hostess
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce, With Dustwrapper
Three volumes. Illustrated throughout. "If you are hampered at every turn by tiresome, complicated recipes; an inefficient kitchen arranged especially to make you weary; instructions to use a half a dozen different containers or operations where one would do, I don't wonder that you are reluctant, but that's only because you haven't had a chance." Written by Ethelind Fearon, an English author who wrote a number of books on such diverse but essential subjects as pig-keeping, pastries, how to keep pace with your daughter, and how to grow herbs. Her great passion was gardening and she was the gardener to H. G. Wells for much of her life. Illustrated by Alexander Jardine, a British artist and illustrator. This set contains: The Reluctant Gardener, 1953. Third printing. Intended for the gardener who grudgingly labors with spade and hoe only because he must, because it is his duty rather than his pleasure, with the purpose of instructing him of the shortcuts to showy results. The Reluctant Cook, 1955. Third printing. A collection of simple recipes to show the reader not how to dodge cooking, but how to simplify it so that it becomes enjoyable. The Reluctant Hostess, 1955. Second printing. A combination of common sense, wisdom, and sprightly wit, that provides the secrets to successful entertainment with particular reference to the unexpected guests who catch their hostess unawares.
