Malcolm Saville was an English writer best known for the Lone Pine series of children's books many of which are set in Shropshire.
The Lone Pine books were written between 1948 and 1978. Though it was written over a long period the characters only age by a few years in the course of the series. Early books of the series evoke visions of childhood reminiscent of Enid Blyton's Famous Five books.
The Lone Pine books introduced a new style of adventure novel to boys and girls. The stories were set against a backdrop of the English countryside.
Illustrated by Bertram Prance. This book includes a map of Dartmoor and eight illustrations.
