The first trade edition. Also published as a limited edition in the same year. 

The author's presentation copy, signed and inscribed by the author to the front free endpaper to Ambrose Heal; "To Sir Ambrose Heal, from R. W. Symonds, *** 1955 April". Ambrose Heal was a furniture designer who is best known for being the Chairman of the popular furniture store 'Heal's' (Heal and Son). 

Illustrated throughout with monochrome vignettes, monochrome full page illustrations and four coloured plates. Collated complete. 

A richly illustrated historical study of furniture making in the seventeenth and eighteenth century by Robert Wemyss Symonds, a British architect and expert in English furniture. The work aims to guide collectors and inform them in the history of furniture. 

In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely with slight fading to the spine and extremities and very minor scattered damp stains. The wrap is split in two at the front joint, with sunning to the spine, small closed tears and chips to the extremities, and scattered spotting. Spotting to the endpapers with author's signature to the front. Internally firmly bound with clean and bright pages.
