This is a verse play by T. S. Eliot. The work follows the story of a young man employed as a confidential clerk, exploring themes of identity, inheritance, and spiritual revelation.
This play was first performed at the 1953 Edinburgh Festival prior to being published. It concerns a wealth entrepreneur who tries to smuggle his illegitimate son Colby into the household under the guise of a clerk.
T. S. Eliot (1888–1965), one of the foremost poets and dramatists of the twentieth century, wrote The Confidential Clerk following his success with The Cocktail Party.
