The first edition of this work. Inscribed by the author to front free endpaper: "To W. H.D. A. presented by the author with all best wishes, Charles Tennyson," dated 9.6.54. A series of six essays written by Charles Tennyson on the poetry by his grandfather, popular author Lord Alfred Tennyson. In this volume, Tennyson discusses the humour, politics, religion, and influences on the poet. He also examines the techniques, studies manuscripts, and looks at the methods such as that to read his work out loud. A comprehensive view of the accomplishments of a great British poet.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to spine. Externally very smart with minor shelfwear and minor bumping ot head and tail of spine. Inscribed by author to front free endpaper "To W. H.D. A. presented by the author with all best wishes, Charles Tennyson," dated 9.6.54. Dustwrapper is very smart with minor shelfwear. Minor faint spotting to wraps, slight sunning to spine. Unclipped. Minor tape repairing to head and tail of spine, internal to wraps and not affecting externals. Internally, firmly bound. Minor faint spotting to edges, affecting the occasional page, particularly to first and last few leaves.
