1954 Leningrad
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
A very scarce collection of photographs of Leningrad.
Numerous illustrations and illustrated plates throughout.
Originally called St. Petersburg, it was renamed in 1914 and again in 1924. In 1991 Leningrad was changed back to St. Petersburg.
In 1941, the Siege of Leningrad began and would last three years. It was one of the longest and most destructive sieges in history and overwhelmingly the most costly in terms of casualties.
The city depicted in the photographs is of a calm, prosperous time in Russia's past, with numerous impressive building and wide streets.
Condition
In a cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor marks to boards and bumping to corners and head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with a few odd handling marks.
