First edition. Signed by the author to the title page. Illustrated with three maps and thirty-two plates. Collated complete. The story of a most extraordinary adventures, being an account of the 1948-1950 exploration undertaken by three Frenchmen and a Columbian of the Orinoco. Setting out from Colombia and Venezuela to Brazil and aiming to be the first white people to ever join the Amazon across the famous Sierra Parima. Written by Alain Gheerbrant, a French writer, editor, poet and explorer, noted for his expedition in the basins of Amazonian rivers. Translated by Edward Fitzgerald, a British translator.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is smart with light wear and the odd small closed tear to the panel edges. The odd small mark or spot. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Light spotting to the endpapers.
