First edition, ninth printing. Illustrated throughout with mapped endpapers. The author's first book which brought him much literary recognition. A book based on a series of travels the author undertook in the Canadian barren lands of the Keewatin Region, Northwest Territories. During this time, Mowat studied the lives of the Ihalmiut, a small population of Inuit whose lives depend heavily on the large population of caribou in the region. Written by Farley McGill Mowat, a Canadian writer and environmentalist. Illustrated by Samuel Bryant, an American artist.

In the original full green cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also very smart with minor wear and the odd small closed tear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
