This is the first novel of Evelyn Waugh's Sword of Honour series, which is based on Waugh's experiences in the Second World War.

The novel follows the life of Guy Crouchback, the heir of an aristocratic Roman Catholic family, who joins the army. 

Waugh was awarded the 1952 James Tait Black Memorial Prize for this work.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart, with rubbing and slight bumping to the extremities. A few marks to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with a contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper.
