This was Mailer's second published novel, and concerns a protagonist who rents a room in a Brooklyn boarding house with the intention of writing a novel.
Wounded during World War II, he is an amnesiac, and much of his past is a secret to him.

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with a touch of shelf wear to back strip tail. Dust wrapper back strip age toned, with minor loss to back strip head, and light chipping to back strip tail. Light spotting to dust wrapper reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
