The Moffatt Bible was a popular translation completed by Scottish theologian James Moffatt. First published in 1913, it was followed by a number of revisions and editions, alongside a commentary, based on his translation, which was comprised of seventeen volumes.
While Moffatt has compiled many translations of the New Testament, this is the first thus of this particular edition, with the statement 'First published in this form 1950' to the edition page.
With the bookplate of English writer and publisher, John Hadfield, best known for his comic novel 'Love on a Branch Line (1959).
Condition
Bound by Zaehnsdorf in half calf with marble paper-covered boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and a few small marks. Fading to the extremities and spine. Bookplate to the front paste down. Spotting to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, with a few spots and the odd handling mark, predominantly to the first few pages.
