    First edition. Signed by the author to the front free endpaper, dated September 15th 1949. A detailed study developing the antithesis between the comic and the tragic spirit into a wide-ranging and highly articulate philosophy of comedy. Written by Albert Cook, an American scholar and philosopher, noted as the editor of Halcyon, a review of poetry and criticism.

    Condition

    In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor bumping to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also very smart with minor wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the endpapers. Author's ink inscription to the front endpaper.
