Rupert Bear is a popular children's comic strip character, a cornerstone of British culture since his first appearance in 1920. He was originally created by Mary Tourtel, in order to win sales for the Daily Express from its rivals, the Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail.
Featuring tales including 'Rupert and Ninky' and 'Rupert's Magic Top'.
Illustrated throughout in colour.
Authored and illustrated by Alfred Bestall, who took over from Mary Tourtel in 1935.
With the former owner's inscription of Jane Killick to the first leaf, which is unclipped.
Condition
In the publisher's original pictorial paper wraps. Losses of paper to back strip head and tail, with small losses of paper to fore edge of front wrap. Inscription to front leaf. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
