The first edition, first impression, in the publisher's original clipped dust wrapper.
Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, and three further colour plates. Collated, complete.
Drawing material from her journals, in Lady Lawrence's work she provides an account of the daily life of the British administration in India, as experienced by a senior Civil Servant, namely her husband, Sir Henry Staveley Lawrence.
He was the Acting governor of Bombay during the British Raj from 20 March 1926 to 8 December 1928, and died as this work was at press.
Dated 1949 via the British Library.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding, and clipped dust wrapper. Light bumps to back strip head and tail, otherwise externally excellent. Dust wrapper age toned to back strip, with minor chipping to back strip head, and light edgewear to back strip tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with only the odd instance of light spotting to pages facing plates.
