First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, twenty-four photographic plates, and numerous in-text images drawn by the author. Collated complete. A combination of study and personal reminiscences, impressions, and judgements of dancing and dancers, with a picture of the dancer's day, rehearsals, classes, and performances. Described with wit and sympathy, the complex currents of a dancer's emotions come through in each page. Written by William Chappell, a British dancer, ballet designer and director noted for his designs for over forty ballets or revues. Chappell appeared or partnered with Karsavina, Lopokova, Markova, Fonteyn, and many other famous ballerinas both in English and Russian companies.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear and light fading to the extremities. Original price-clipped dust wrapper is sound with light wear and chipping to the extremities. Sunning to the spine with light spotting to the panels. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spine as well as the panel edges. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot.
