Written by American author Chester Himes, known for his works of crime fiction, often set in America, which tackle important themes, including racism and anti-Semitism. In particular, Himes is highly regarded for his Harlem Detective series, many of which have been adapted into film.
'Lonely Crusade' is a compelling work of fiction set during the Second World War at an aircraft factory located in California. The story surrounds the experiences of a black factory worker who becomes a union organiser, facing much prejudice in doing so. Himes highlights the major problems faced by many Americans, including racism, anti-Semitism, poor working conditions and corruption.
Condition
Bound in the publisher's cloth, with the original, price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light shelf wear. A few faint spots to the fore edge. Dust wrapper is also very smart, with just a little sunning to the spine and age toning the the rear panel. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
