Complete in four volumes. A collection of Middle Eastern folktales compiled in the Arabic language during the Islamic Golden Age. Originally collected over many centuries by various authors, translators, and scholars across West Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, and North Africa. Famed tales within include that of Sinbad the sailor, Ali Baba and Aladdin. Rendered into English from the literal and complete French translation of Joseph Charles Mardrus, a French physician, poet, and noted translator. Translated into English by Edward Powys Mathers, an English translator and poet, and a pioneer of compiling advanced cryptic crosswords.

Condition

In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Light scattered spotting to the endpapers.
