The first edition, first impression of this collection of essays from twentieth century English detective fiction writer and poet Dorothy L. Sayers.

In the publisher's original price unclipped dust wrapper. 

Divided into three sections, with the first dedicated to theology, the second to politics, and the third to a literary analysis of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.

Sayers was a prolific author of crime fiction during the Golden Age of Detective Fiction, and one of the 'Queens of Crime', alongside notable others such as Agatha Christie and Ngaio Marsh.

With a contemporary inscription, dated Xmas 1946, to the front free endpaper.

In the publisher's original cloth binding, with unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, fine. Inscription to front free endpaper. Dust wrapper age toned to back strip and wrap perimeters, with small losses of paper and closed tears to back strip head and tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
