1946 Min-Yo: Folk-Songs of Japan
What Our Customers Say...
Description
Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce
The scarce second revised edition of Iwao Matsubura's Min-Yo, a collection of Japanese folk-songs. Published by Cosmo Publishing in 1946, very shortly after Japan's defeat at the end of the Second World War.
In the publisher's original paper cover boards. Contains 103 poems, with both the English translation, the Japanese phonation, and the original Japanese.
A diverse set of Japanese folk-songs composed of short lyrics or simple poetic expression of the experiences of individuals and of common humanity. Unlike Tanka poems that focus much on nature, these folk-songs focus on love, daily toils and dance songs.
These Minyo folk songs are special for their beautiful simplicity and as poetic expressions of the common people rather than the highest echelons of Japanese society.
