A set of two delightful illustrated volumes containing the author's observations of British birds and wildlife commonly spotted in gardens and countrysides. 'The Year in the Countryside' lays out the common species, habitats and natural changes found across each month of the year.
Beautifully decorated throughout both texts with scraperboard illustrations by Stanley Herbert, a British commercial artist active in the 1930s to 1960s.
Written by Frances Pitt, a British naturalist and pioneer of wildlife photography.
Condition
In the original cloth bindings. With the original price-clipped dust wrappers. Externally, very smart, with fading to the spine and board edges of 'Meet Us in the Garden'. Both dust wrappers are chipped to the spine, with further chipping to the front and rear covers of 'Garden'. Sunning and a couple marks to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with occasional spots to 'Countryside', heaviest to the endpapers. With the odd spot to 'Garden'.
